Persuasive Essay Outline
Introductory Paragraph
  • Grab the reader’s attention by providing a quote
  • Give your interpretation of the quote and how it relates to the topic of extreme sports.
  • Agree/disagree with the quote. This will be your claim/thesis statement- the position to be argued.
Body Paragraphs

Discuss the reasons why you agree with the claim
  • Each body paragraph should have a reason to support your claim and focus on one piece of evidence (from an article, the documentary, personal experience, observations).
  • Within each paragraph, provide sufficient supporting detail.
  • According to…..
  • In the documentary….
  • Extreme sports such as….
  • In my own experience,....
Opposing View Paragraph
  • Describe and then refute (i.e. prove wrong) the key points of the opposing view.
  • some sentences starters to introduce your counterargument:

Concluding Paragraph
  • Restate and reinforce the thesis and supporting evidence.

The grading period ends this Friday
 Make sure you are caught up:

*WNB- complete all entries; dated? proofread? see Mrs. Roberts' blog for rubric and there are posters in both her class and mine regarding entries.
* Book Reviews: 2 are due WED 4/23. One should be on SEEDFOLKS and the other, a book of your choice.
* Stereotypes Essay: should have been done, however, if not GET IT DONE!
*Finish AOW Summary and opinion paragraph: "Famous Snowboarder"

I'm back!



Whew. It's been a while since I have been at PLHS.
Prior to my surgery, we were just about completed with our NaNoWriMo, and now we are just weeks away from completing our freshman year together!
Today: draft of the Stereotypes Essay is due, be ready to revise in English class.
FINAL DRAFT due tomorrow, 4/15. You will have time in this class to make any final changes.
